MAUPIN, Ore. — A wildfire burning southwest of Maupin, on the west side of the Deschutes River, has grown to around 1,028 acres and is 50% contained, according to the Central Oregon Fire (CFO) Tuesday morning. The wildfire, known as the Long Bend Fire, was spotted Saturday afternoon.

On Monday afternoon, the Wasco County Sheriff's Office downgraded a Level 2 (Be Ready) evacuation order to a Level 1 (Be Ready) notice. The evacuation order is in place for all homes south of Highway 216 from Natural Pasture Road to Blue Rock Road, and homes east of Reservation Road and South of Highway 216 to Natural Pasture Road. The Deschutes River closure from the Harpham Flat Campground to Maupin has been lifted, according to CFO. The Harpham Flat Campground and Wapinitia Campground have reopened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Residents should be aware of the danger that exists in their area and monitor local media outlets for information. Residents with special needs should take note and begin making arrangements to evacuate. Evacuations at this time are voluntary.
