Power went out in the neighborhood as a result of the crash, police reported.

Two men died in a crash early Tuesday morning in Southeast Portland after fleeing police in a car that had been reported stolen, police reported.

The chase began around 12:15 a.m. near Southeast 159th Avenue and Division Street, according to the police statement.

Police tried to stop the car but it eluded them. Officers found the car minutes later near Southeast 139th Avenue and Division Street, after it had crashed into another car and then a utility pole, police reported.

Two men in the fleeing car were dead. Another man in the car was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Their names have not been released.

The woman driving the other car in the crash had minor injuries and remained at the scene.

Power went out in the neighborhood as a result of the car crashing into the utility pole, police reported.

The Portland Police Bureau’s Major Crash Team is investigating the crash. Southeast Division Street will be closed between 136th Avenue and 142nd Avenue during the initial phase of the investigation.
