One person was taken to a hospital for medical attention. All other residents were evacuated and no other injuries were reported.

HILLSBORO, Ore. — Ten residents were displaced by a fire in a duplex on Northeast Barberry Court in Hillsboro that broke out late Monday night, according to a news release from Hillsboro Fire and Rescue.

Multiple neighbors called 911 over a few minutes just after 11 p.m., and the first caller said they saw what they thought was an orange glow from a fire pit, but then saw heavy black smoke and a quickly growing fire in the backyard, and other neighbors said the fire had spread to the inside of the house.

A fire crew arrived and found the back and side of the home on fire, and requested additional resources be deployed to the scene. A second crew arrived and connected a fire hydrant to attack the fire with multiple hoses on the side and rear of the house while others went inside and additional personnel cut holes in the roof to clear out smoke and heated gas.

Firefighters searched the house and found one person who required medical assessment and was taken to a hospital, according to the news release. Everyone else was evacuated safely from both units of the duplex and no other injuries were reported. The news release did not say anything about the current condition of the hospitalized patient.

A Hillsboro fire investigator responded to the scene and is working to determine the cause of the fire, according to the news release. Hillsboro Public Safety chaplains also responded to assist the 10 residents displaced by the fire.
