Temperatures climbed to 90 degrees (unofficially) at the Portland International Airport on Tuesday, but they’ll take a nosedive Wednesday under partly sunny skies.

The National Weather Service says onshore flow will return Wednesday as a damp system approaches the Oregon coast. Winds will shift from northerly to southerly and temps will lower at least 15 degrees from yesterday’s high.

Inland valleys will likely see temps stay in the 70s and there’s only a 5% chance of anywhere in northwest Oregon or southwest Washington reaching 80 degrees. The coast will be even cooler with highs in the upper 50 or low 60s.

Portland gets a day of partly sunny skies Wednesday with the high temp dropping to about 73. Clouds will increase later in the afternoon.

Portland has a 30-45% chance of showers overnight and into Thursday morning. Skies will start off mostly cloudy, then clear to partly sunny by the afternoon. Even if we do see some rain, it will be light, and amounts are likely to range from a trace to 0.15 inch. The daytime high will reach about 72 degrees.

But the cloudy and damp weather won’t last long. Dry skies and warmer temps are expected to return Friday and Saturday.

Friday will be mostly sunny, and temps will warm to about 80 degrees.

Skies should be partly sunny on Saturday and temps should reach about 81 degrees.

Another weak system is mentioned in the extended forecast. It will move in Saturday night or Sunday morning pushing temps back down into the 70s. Sunday even has a slight chance of showers.
