When is a shipyard more than just a shipyard?

Maybe when a dance troupe brings together musicians, dancers, aerialists, visual artists and even puppets to take over said shipyard and turn it into the site for “an expansive evening-length lullaby to usher us through our collective endings and beginnings.”

Next month ProLab Dance will do just that when they present “Break to Build Part 2 - After the Anthropocene,” at Zidell Shipyard (3121 S. Moody Ave.).

This will be the second time ProLab Dance has taken over Zidell Shipyard. Last year, the group sold out all six shows of the original “Break to Build.”

According to a press release from ProLab Dance, this year’s installment “promises even more surprise, wonder and a charm that audiences will not soon forget.”

During the show, audiences are led through the shipyard while performances happen around them, and, as the press release said, “The dancers and live musicians integrate into the decaying architecture of the site as they search for the basic elements of humanity.”

The group will once again put on six summer evening performances, Friday, July 19, to Sunday, July 21, and Friday, July 26, to Sunday, July 28, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the show starting at 7:30 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m.

Tickets, which start at $45 for general admission, can be found at prolabdance.com.
