Thursday's weather will be damp much of the day as clouds and light showers move across the metro area. Oregonian file photo.

If you woke up to a wet yard early Thursday, it’s likely due to the weak weather system that is moving through the region spreading scattered showers and bringing in plenty of clouds.

The National Weather Service says showers continued through the evening and into the morning but most of the rain fell along the coast and in the higher terrain. Northwest Oregon is likely to see only a trace of rainfall Thursday, with some areas measuring about 0.15 inches under steadier showers.

Portland has a 40% chance of continued showers under mostly cloudy skies. The high temperature will be a cool 71 degrees. This is about seven degrees cooler than what is average during the last few days of June, but it won’t last long.

Once this system moves east skies should clear and Friday is looking like a mostly sunny day with temperatures climbing back up to about 79 degrees.

Another trough moving near the coast on the weekend will allow some clouds to move into the valleys and give Portland partly sunny skies Saturday. High temps will reach near 83 degrees.

Sunday could be a cloudy day with high temps reaching near 80 degrees and a very slight chance of showers later in the day as a new wet system moves into the region.

Extended forecasts are showing shower chances on Monday with highs in the upper 70s or low 80s.
