After burning 1,024 acres, the Long Bend Fire was 90% contained as of Thursday morning, Central Oregon Fire Management Service spokesperson Kaitlyn Webb said. All Level 1 evacuation notices in the area have been lifted.

The fire started Saturday afternoon around two miles south of Maupin and burned along the west side of the Deschutes River. Flames spread to 625 acres by Sunday morning, prompting evacuation orders at two campgrounds in the area as well as a Level 2 “Get Set” notice for nearby residences.

The notices were lowered to Level 1 on Monday, and fire crews contained 50% of the fire by the next morning, Central Oregon fire officials reported. The two campgrounds reopened Wednesday.

By then, most of the heat was concentrated along Wapinitia Creek, according to a Central Oregon Fire statement.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.

To the south, the Darlene 3 wildfire near La Pine blazes on, burning over 2,000 acres. It was 30% contained as of Wednesday.
