PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A traffic stop turned into a shooting and became a police chase before one man was arrested in Tillamook County early Wednesday evening.

Just before 6:30 p.m., police say that, during a traffic stop near a Fred Meyer on North Main in Tillamook, a man shot several times at police. Tillamook County Sheriff’s deputies and police officers fired back before the man fled in his car, prompting police to chase the car for several miles, officials say.

TCSO deputies deployed spike strips on the suspect’s car, damaging its tires. The car then pulled into a driveway before being taken into custody.

Authorities say the man was then taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm. Once he was released, he was booked in the Tillamook County Jail.

The Oregon State Police are currently investigating the shooting.

No further information, including the suspect’s identity, has been released at this time.
