A mousetrap is marked “for complaint department, press button” behind the service counter at Carpenter Brothers Hardware, 2753 Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor on Friday, March 18, 2022.

In what can only be called “interesting” news: Oregonians apparently are the second-to-last state when it comes to complaining.

That’s one of the main takeaways from a survey by Preply, a tutor website, anyway.

According to a press release, the website surveyed 2,000 Americans “about their biggest gripes in life and how they feel about our culture of complaining.”

Oregon came in right under Georgia as the state where people complain the least.

If the people of Oregon are complaining less than most people across the country, this cannot be good news for the rest of the country, because people here love to complain. We complain about our cities, our streets, crime, what’s opening, what’s closing, the weather.

Take, as an example this recent KATU Facebook post asking people to describe Portland in three words. Many of their answers could be described in one word: Complaints.

So, we can only imagine how much complaining is happening in No. 1 most complaining state, Mississippi.

But what does this survey say Oregonians complain about, when they find time in their busy schedule of not complaining to complain? Preply says: Prices.

According to their survey, 100% of Oregonians complain about prices, which tracks, and is the No. 1 thing people across their survey complained about, because of course. Who wants to spend money?

One thing we don’t complain about that much is our children. According to the survey, “Only 35% of residents complain about their kids.”

That, of course, is because Oregon’s children are perfect. Those 35% are probably complaining about kids they happened to run into at a playground in Washington.
