Only one event final — the men’s 110-meter hurdles — is on the schedule Friday at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials. But there still will be stars and intrigue aplenty as the action rolls on at Hayward Field in Eugene for Day 8 of the trials.
Sprint stars Sha’Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles return to the track for the semifinals of the women’s and men’s 200 meters. Likewise, semifinal heats will go off in both the women’s 1,500 and the men’s 800.
Jaida Ross, the Oregon Ducks’ NCAA champion shot-putter, will be among the contenders as the women’s shot put begins with its qualifying rounds.
Javelin thrower Kara Winger, who stepped away from the sport after winning the silver medal at the world championships in Eugene, has returned to competition and is set to compete in women’s javelin qualifying.
And in that event final, Grant Holloway will look to scorch the track with another sub-13-second performance in the 110 hurdles.
