Hundreds of pedestrians gather on the Hawthorne Bridge to watch the fireworks at the Blues Festival in 2019. Oregonian file photo.

Bridge closures:

Multnomah County will close the Hawthorne and Morrison bridges to vehicles 8 p.m.-midnight on Thursday for the fireworks show put on by the Waterfront Blues Festival.

In prior years when the bridge was open to motor vehicles, crowds of pedestrians would generally gather on the bridges to watch the show and cause safety issues. Cars and trucks will need to choose an alternate river crossing during that time. Both bridges will remain open to pedestrians, bicyclists, and other non-motorized vehicles.
