Many spots on Team USA for the Paris Olympics already have been claimed. But the final day of the U.S. Olympic trials for track and field brings 11 more event finals, and therefore 33 more spots up for grabs on the U.S. team.
The men’s finals will be in the hammer, high jump, triple jump, 5,000 meters, 800 meters and 400-meter hurdles. The women’s finals are in the pole vault, javelin, 100-meter hurdles, 1,500 meters and 400-meter hurdles.
Cole Hocker, Woody Kincaid and Grant Fisher are among the favorites in the men’s 5,000. The women’s 1,500 field is loaded. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Rai Benjamin are heavy favorites in the 400 hurdles races. Former Oregon Ducks star Alaysha Johnson is one of the top contenders in the 100 hurdles. Kara Winger, who is from Vancouver, is making a comeback in the women’s javelin.
The day will be packed with action — and medals. Follow along here for live updates as the events unfold in Eugene.
