J.B. Bickerstaff didn’t remain unemployed for very long.

The Detroit Pistons are expected hire Bickerstaff as their new head coach, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Sunday. Bickerstaff and the Pistons have agreed to five-year deal, according to the report.

The former Oregon State Beavers’ star was hired to replace Monty Williams, who was fired posting a league-worst 14-68 in his first season in Detroit, their second consecutive season of posting less than 20 wins. Williams, who signed a six-year, $78.5 million deal, is still owed $65 million after he was terminated.

Bickerstaff, 45, was fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers after the team was eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals last season, their second consecutive appearance in the playoffs. The Cavaliers defeated the Orlando Magic in the first round, notching the franchise’s first series win without LeBron James on its roster since 1993.

The Cavaliers lost to eventual league champion Celtics in five games. Cleveland center Jared Allen missed the entire series with an ankle injury and All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell missed the final two games with a hamstring injury.

Bickerstaff will have the team’s best player in the fold after the Pistons and star guard Cade Cunningham reportedly agreed to a five-year, $226 million max rookie contract extension according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. The Pistons haven’t won a playoff game since 2008, when they appeared in the Eastern Conference finals for the sixth consecutive year.
