Portland could reach triple-digit temperatures for the next five days, National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Burling said Thursday.

If it does, each day will break the record highs and it will be just the second time Portland hits triple digits for five consecutive days. The last time that happened was in 1941, he said.

“It is absolutely not a certainty that will happen, but it is possible,” Burling said.

Cooling centers open in Multnomah and surrounding counties on Friday for people who need a respite from the high temperatures.

Libraries will also reopen after a Fourth of July closure and some have extended their hours into the evening.
