George Stephanopoulos, anchor of ABC News’ “Good Morning America” and “This Week,” will interview President Joe Biden in a primetime broadcast Friday, July 5, an event that’s being described as “one of the most high-stakes moments for a president or a candidate in many years.”
The interview comes as Biden is trying to reassure voters, donors and fellow Democrats that he should remain the candidate in the presidential race against former president Donald Trump. Following his disappointing performance in the June 27 debate with Trump, Biden has been facing calls for him to step down and let another Democrat run against Trump.
Biden has insisted he will stay in the race, and has been trying to focus attention on his administration’s accomplishments, even as polls show many voters worry about Biden’s age and competence.
The taped ABC interview is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. ET/PT Friday, July 5, which means it will be tape-delayed for West Coast viewers. Those on the West Coast who don’t want to wait for 8 p.m. can check out live video streams using the ABC News app for smartphones and tablets, and connected services, including Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Roku; the ABC News website; or the ABC News YouTube channel
