Kellogg Middle School is one of a few Portland Public Schools buildings that is equipped with air conditioning. It will remain open Monday and Tuesday during the heat wave, but many other buildings are closed because of a lack of air conditioning.

Summer school is out — at least at non-air conditioned buildings at Portland Public Schools, until the current heat wave breaks.

District officials said Monday that they are canceling all summer programming at non air conditioned buildings, because of the high heat forecast for the next two days.

Temperatures in Portland are expected to peak on Tuesday at above 100 degrees, before dropping back down to the low 90s Wednesday.

Programming will continue at a handful of air conditioned sites, including Faubion K-8, Franklin High, Grant High, Kellogg Middle School, McDaniel High and Roosevelt High.

Several other districts also announced closures for Monday due to lack of air conditioning, including the North Clackamas School District.
