Authorities on Friday identified the man accused of ramming patrol cars inside a hospital parking garage two weeks ago and the Clackamas County sheriff’s deputy who shot him.

Joseph D. Brasuell, 25, remains in the hospital with serious injuries, the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

Portland police had chased Brasuell across the county line in a stolen 2020 Kia on June 28 when he drove into the Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center’s parking structure, the DA’s office said.

Brasuell was sought at the time on Clackamas County warrants for first-degree theft, hit-and-run and eluding police, prosecutors said.

Steven Tucker, a patrol deputy with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office for the past nine years, shot and wounded Brasuell inside the garage.

Tucker, who wasn’t injured, has been placed on standard paid administrative leave while the Clackamas County Interagency Major Crimes Team investigates the shooting.

A grand jury will determine whether the deputy’s use of force was warranted.

Brausell was sentenced to three years of probation in 2020 for possessing methamphetamine and a prohibited silencer after Portland police were dispatched to the Mall 205 parking lot to investigate a suspected drug deal the previous summer, court records show.
