Police have not released the identity of either man who died or that of the suspect in the stabbing.

Two men are dead after a shooting and a separate stabbing occurred in Portland within one hour of each other Sunday night and early Monday morning, police reported.

Officers responded to reports of a man shot at the intersection of Northeast 55th Avenue and Hassalo Street at 11:30 p.m. They arrived to find a man with life-threatening injuries, police said.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he died. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, according to the police statement.

An hour later, officers responded to reports of a stabbing at the intersection of Southeast 136th Avenue and Clinton Street. They came upon a man suffering from severe injuries, police said.

The man later died at a local hospital. A suspect was taken into custody in connection with the stabbing, police reported.

Police have not released the identity of either man who died or that of the suspect in the stabbing.

The night before, two men died in a shooting near Portland’s Broughton Beach area. And last Friday, a Southeast Portland shooting killed a man at Sellwood Riverfront Park.

The Sunday night and Monday morning killings mark the 42nd and 43rd suspected homicides in Portland so far this year, close to the pace of killing in the city at this point in 2023.

Northeast Hassalo Street is closed between 55th Avenue and 57th Avenue, and 55th Avenue is closed between Hassalo Street and Irving Street during the initial phase of the shooting investigation, police said.

Southeast Clinton Street is closed between 136th Avenue and 137th Avenue, and 136th Avenue is closed between Division Street and just south of Clinton Street during the initial phase of the stabbing investigation.
