Police have arrested a suspect in the Southeast Portland shooting that killed Hunter Sutherland Lantz Hecker on June 27, the Portland Police Bureau said.

Adrian G. Garcia, 18, of Portland, was arrested Tuesday in the 6700 block of Southeast 86th Avenue, according to police. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon, according to court documents. Hecker, 30, was shot outside a bar on Southeast 82nd Avenue near Woodstock Boulevard “in a senseless act of violence,” according to an earlier statement from his family and previously disclosed information from police.

Hecker studied at the Oregon Culinary Institute and worked at the Pearl District bar Silk Road. He had moved from New Jersey to Portland for its “vibrant food scene and diverse recreational opportunities,” his family said. The investigation of the shooting is continuing, and police ask anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police to contact Det.
